Commercial Weed of Today

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

While it is not always harsh or unpleasant and it still tends to get the job done, overly dry bud is not what you'd expect from a premium cannabis brand! A woman of a certain age reminded me she had been using a small piece of citrus peel in her jar to rehydrate the super dry weed she bought from a dispensary I was working for. I seem to remember purchasing weed on the street many years ago with what appeared to be traces of dried lemon peel in it, I thought that was to add weight, well it kind of does but I don't feel that what I am trying to do would gain me a whole lot. I totally geek out over science experiments, so I figured I'll give it a shot. 1/8th Dog Patch... a new favorite of mine, however customers and employees alike found it has been extremely dry lately, which has been a bit of a bummer. Theses nuggets were hard and unremarkable. Smelled nice, alright, I guess, but it seems something, is lacking... I can't place it.. I tested a small bud from my eighth. It was dry and crumbly, no need for a grinder, it just turned to dust by squeezing. It was so dry it did not appear to be particularly sticky either, the fine dust didn't make my fingers feel like I was handling quality cannabis.

I was eating a tangerine, so I just tossed a small piece of rind (the size of a dime) into the jar, put the lid on, and left it alone overnight. I can't wait to see what happens! When I opened the jar the next morning, I immediately discarded the peel and left the jar open for about a minute or two but since I wanted to be sure that I was smelling the weed, not the peel, so I put those nugs in a clean, fresh, glass jar. I noticed a few things right away:

- The smell of the Dog Patch was much brighter and fresher, not citrusy like the peel I used.

- The weed looked like they took up more area in the jar.

When I pressed on a larger bud, it was not dry anymore, it was definitely not damp or super spongy, but it was honestly PERFECT... fluffy and bouncy!

- It STUCK to my finger!

- The peel did not mask the flavor and had minimal if any real impact on the aroma.

- It did not burn so fast!

Much to my delight, a tiny tangerine rind brought my dry weed back to life! Rehydrating super-dry bud for FREE, at home, worked for me, <3
